About Bourke Street Park

Outdoor Gym at Bourke Street Park

Bourke Street Park has a free outdoor gym with monkey bars and parallel bars, so anyone can train at no cost. The exercise equipment was installed during the park's upgrade, which also created new grassed areas across the site. Outdoor exercise is the park's main active use, and the compact setting suits people who want to train in a small outdoor space in Woolloomooloo. The park's seating and shaded areas offer a place to rest between sets.

Community Garden at Bourke Street Park

Bourke Street Park has an adjacent community garden where local residents grow vegetables, herbs and fruit. The garden has raised beds, a pergola, a potting area and storage, with a mix of communal and individual allotments and two fruit trees. New seedlings arrive each month, four chickens provide eggs, and the coordinators plan to keep bees for honey. Regular meetings with interested residents cover produce and maintenance, and the garden is the second community garden to open in Woolloomooloo.

Amenities Building at Bourke Street Park

Bourke Street Park has an amenities building with public toilets, including an accessible toilet, plus a storage room and a potting bench and trough for gardeners. Stainless steel panels on the building have cutouts that provide surveillance, particularly at night. Before the upgrade, the park had no facilities apart from a temporary builder's toilet, and the new building now serves both the park and the community garden.
