About Macarthur Park

Heritage Rose Garden and Wisteria Walk at Macarthur Park

The heritage rose garden at Macarthur Park is the park's most distinctive garden feature. A wisteria walk gives visitors a second defined route through the park's historic grounds. Macarthur Park also has a walking track and walking trails, a pond and scenic views. The gardens sit within Camden's long-established public green space, so one visit can take in both the roses and the wisteria.

War Memorials and Historic Landmarks at Macarthur Park

Macarthur Park holds the Cenotaph, which honours World War One soldiers, and Camden's War Memorial, giving the park a central place in local commemoration. The Faithfull-Anderson Fountain stands in the grounds; it once stood where the roundabout at the intersection of John and Argyle Street is now. Mrs Elizabeth Macarthur-Onslow, a granddaughter of John Macarthur, gave the park to the people of Camden in 1905, and a shelter built in 1913 stands in her memory.

Playground and Picnic Areas at Macarthur Park

Macarthur Park has a playground for children, along with barbecue areas and picnic areas where families and friends can share a meal outdoors. Public toilets and a cafe or dining option on site support a longer stay. Because the playground, barbecues and picnic spots all sit within the same grounds, Macarthur Park works well for a full day out with children, combined with a stroll past the gardens and memorials.
