About Kings Bush Reserve
Woodland and Wildlife at Kings Bush Reserve
The western slopes of Kings Bush Reserve carry Cumberland Plain Woodland on shale clay soil, dominated by Grey Box and Forest Red Gum over Kangaroo Grass and other native grasses. The eastern floodplain supports River Oak, Blue Box and Broad-leaved Apple. Bush regeneration was carried out in 2002โ2003, and volunteers continue the work through Camden Council's Bushcare program. Kookaburras are the most common bird, and echidnas are seen occasionally.

History of Kings Bush Reserve
Kings Bush Reserve is named after Reverend Cecil John King, a former rector of St John's Church. King played wicket keeper for the Camden Cricket Club, was patron of the Camden Golf Club in 1927, and kept his horse in the paddock beside the river, where he also swam. The reserve was originally part of the church's glebe lands. In 1970 the church subdivided part of those lands for housing, creating Forrest Crescent, and the remaining area was declared a public reserve as a regional open space contribution under Camden Council's control.
