History of Edwards Park
Edwards Park was dedicated to Strathfield Council in 1955 for open space and public recreation. The park is named after Alderman William Edwards, a former member of Council and Deputy Mayor. The land was first developed as a private housing estate by Ebenezer Ford, and the estate lay undeveloped for over 15 years because of Ford's death, the Great Depression and World War II. The Strathfield South Branch Library was built at the northern end of the park in 1956. Edwards Park belongs to Council's Adopt a Park program, adopted by the Rotary Club of Strathfield, and appears on Council's draft Heritage Register.
