About Centenary Playground
Children's Playground at Centenary Playground
Centenary Playground has a children's playground as its main feature, and the existing equipment is aging and shows signs of wear. Upgrades proposed for the park focus on safety, expanded play opportunities, community inclusivity and native biodiversity. The proposed works would replace the old equipment with a new play space, add a circulating pathway and bring in additional native planting. Alongside the playground, the park keeps open space for passive and informal recreation.
Heritage of Centenary Playground
Centenary Playground opened in 1985 to mark the 100th anniversary of Strathfield Council's incorporation, and Council resolved to give the park its name that same year. Before it became a park, the land was a tennis court belonging to the Strathfield-Homebush Parish of the Uniting Church, which faces Homebush Road. Council bought the court from the parish and laid the site out as a children's playground, the purpose it still serves today.
