About Tingira Memorial Park
HMAS Tingira History at Tingira Memorial Park
Tingira Memorial Park commemorates HMAS Tingira, a Royal Australian Navy training ship. The first intake of boys trained on board between 1 June and 28 June 1912, and by decommissioning 3,168 boys had received their initial training on the ship. The park was redesigned and reopened on 7 March 2004, and a plaque records the reopening by the Mayor of Woollahra, Councillor John Comino. Jane Irwin Landscape Architects and McGregor Westlake Architects designed it, with funding from the Australian Government Department of Veterans Affairs, Woollahra Council and the Rose Bay RSL Club and Sub-Branch. A low concrete wall with metal lettering and a display panel tells the ship's story.
Beach and Watercraft Hire at Tingira Memorial Park
Tingira Memorial Park gives direct access to Rose Bay beach and its shoreline. Rose Bay Aquatic Hire operates from the beach in front of the park, offering watercraft for kayaking and paddleboarding. The shallow water suits toddlers, and the park has watercraft storage for local boat owners. Views of Sydney Harbour make the park a popular spot for picnics by the water.
