About Henson Park

Off-Leash Dog Area at Henson Park

Henson Park's off-leash area sits outside the sporting ground, is unfenced and lies close to roads, so it suits well-trained dogs only. Dogs may also use the area during weekly sporting club training. On Newtown Jets rugby league and AFL/NSW game days, dogs must stay on leash, and only medically required companion animals may enter the ground for AFLW games. Henson Park provides poo bags.

Sports Ground and Grandstand at Henson Park

Henson Park was established in 1933 on the site of Daley's brick pit. The ground has a grass playing surface, a capacity of 20,000, open-air seating and grassy hill seating. Besides its rugby league and AFLW fixtures, Henson Park hosts community Australian football and charity events, which usually bring food and beer trucks. The heritage-listed King George V Grandstand has been revitalised with four female-friendly change rooms, and a new multi-purpose building at its rear holds a gym space, community function areas, a canteen, coaches' boxes and media and broadcast infrastructure.

Toilets and Accessibility at Henson Park

Henson Park has a public toilet, and the multi-purpose building behind the grandstand adds accessible public amenities and baby change facilities. The redeveloped King George V Grandstand has lift access to its upper levels. A lit concrete pathway runs from the grandstand to the Woodland Street entrance. Upgrade works costing $700,000, which included replacement sports field perimeter fencing, were completed in June 2024.
