Heritage Design and Harbour Views at Illoura Reserve
Illoura Reserve was designed by landscape architect Bruce Mackenzie and built in two stages, in 1970 and 1981. Inner West Council owns the reserve, and it was listed on the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 29 November 2013. Illoura Reserve looks out over Sydney Harbour, and its picnic areas with picnic tables let visitors sit and take in the water views.
New Year's Eve at Illoura Reserve
Illoura Reserve is a popular New Year's Eve viewing site with good views of the western side of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. The site holds up to 2,850 people, and entry is free with no booking required. BYO alcohol is allowed and drinking water stations are provided on the night. Drones, camping and busking are not permitted, and sunshades must come down at sunset. The viewing site has an accessible entrance and a continuous path of travel.

Illoura Reserve is on Weston Street, Balmain East NSW 2041. Street parking on Weston Street is extremely limited, and the Balmain East ferry wharf is nearby. On New Year's Eve, some roads into the Balmain and Birchgrove Peninsula close from 3pm, and ferries stop running on the harbour by 5:30pm.
