About Alumni Park
Outdoor Theatre and Events at Alumni Park
Alumni Park has an outdoor theatre and cinema space that hosts film and theatre events, and the park has been used for temporary markets, music, performances and celebrations. A bleacher-style seating area called the Meeting Place is designed for informal gatherings, ceremonies and presentations, and tiered performance seating on the Esme Timbery steps is shaded by native shrubs. The park also has new facilities for events, performances and club activities.
Outdoor Gym and Seating at Alumni Park
Alumni Park has outdoor gym equipment for informal exercise and sport, and its foosball tables offer casual recreation. Elevated timber platforms under the paperbark trees provide informal shaded seating, while reclined seats are set up for relaxing and quiet reflection. The park also includes playful spaces and outdoor learning areas, giving students, staff and other visitors welcoming places to relax and socialise.
Indigenous Art and Banksia Scrub at Alumni Park
Alumni Park has a permanent Indigenous artwork and engravings by Uncle Greg Simms, produced with guidance from Aunty Marjorie Dixon and Uncle Assen Timbery after consultation with the La Perouse Indigenous Community, the traditional owners of the land. The park has re-introduced the critically endangered Eastern Suburbs Banksia Scrub, including Banksia serrata, Baeckea imbricata, Dichelachne crinita, Dillwynia retorta and Pimelea linifolia. Existing and newly planted paperbark trees create a cool microclimate, and all surface water is kept on site and discharged back to the aquifer.
