About Norfolk Reserve
Bushland Vegetation at Norfolk Reserve
Norfolk Reserve has dry forest vegetation with several eucalyptus species and occasional paperbarks. The reserve is classed as Cooks River Clay Plain Scrub Forest, a community listed as endangered in 1995, and less than 1% of the original community remains in small remnants such as Norfolk Reserve. Listed rare plants at the reserve include the downy wattle and the vine Vincetoxicum woollsii. Regular bush regeneration maintains this critically endangered vegetation, and its overall health is fair to good.
Wildlife and Conservation at Norfolk Reserve
Norfolk Reserve has few indigenous vertebrates recorded, but bearded dragons and skinks have been seen in the bushland. The reserve may provide habitat for the regent honeyeater and bent-wing bat, which were both recorded nearby in the past. Conservation work at Norfolk Reserve has blackberry, Paddy's, Bidens and Fleabane weeds mostly under control, although the grass Ehrharta erecta remains troublesome. The southern part of the reserve is in particularly good condition.
