About St Neots Reserve

Shaded Lawn and Art Deco Seats at St Neots Reserve

St Neots Reserve has a lawned area of about 180 square metres bordered by hedge rows and Agapanthus. Shade comes from an overhanging London Plane tree and from a Robinia, whose semi-translucent leaves filter the light. Art Deco seats are set within the garden, giving the corner a heritage place to sit. A water bubbler with a built-in dog bowl lets people and dogs drink from the same fixture, making the reserve a quiet rest stop on Macleay Street.

History of St Neots Reserve

The land on which St Neots Reserve sits was bought by surveyor and pastoralist Henry Dangar in the 1850s. In 1852 Dangar built a large sandstone home called Grantham near the site, and it stood until it was demolished in 1937. Sydney Council later named the pocket park after the adjacent St Neots Avenue. The area also carries the Indigenous name Bujari Gamarruwa.
