About Riverwood Peace Park

History of Riverwood Peace Park

Riverwood Peace Park takes its name from the army hospital that once stood on the site, after the EAB lobbied for the name to be made official. Work on the park began in 2002, after many years of waiting by the local community. The Department of Housing landscaped the park under its Community Renewal Scheme, adding the barbecue and the kids' bike track. Local residents took part in the design, and their involvement has continued since the park was planned.

Hand-Painted Tiles and Pink Fencing at Riverwood Peace Park

Riverwood Peace Park has 700 individually made tiles as a piece of community art. Tenants at the Casula Powerhouse Museum made the tiles, and people with a past or present connection to Riverwood painted and handcrafted each one. The EAB chose the bright watermelon pink fencing that runs around the park. Together, the tiles and the fencing give the park a distinctive look shaped by local input.
