About Liverpool Apex Park

Playground and Nature Play at Liverpool Apex Park

Liverpool Apex Park has a small playground built around a multiplay structure. A separate nature play area sets elevated balance beams among the trees, and an old steam roller forms part of the play space for children to climb on. Both the multiplay structure and the nature play area were added in the 2020 redevelopment. Families can move from the play areas to the BBQ and picnic area nearby.

Free BBQ and Picnic Area at Liverpool Apex Park

Liverpool Apex Park has a free BBQ with covered tables and seating, which give shelter while people eat. The 2020 redevelopment added a dedicated picnic area, and the open lawn has new seating for multi-purpose use. More outdoor seating is spread across the grounds, and the park has landscaped gardens. Families can spread out on the lawn for a relaxed outdoor lunch.

Heritage of Liverpool Apex Park

Liverpool Apex Park occupies Liverpool's first burial ground, consecrated by the Reverend Samuel Marsden in 1811. At least 122 people were buried there between 1811 and 1821, including the First Fleet convict Nathaniel Lucas, and burials stopped in 1821 because of the high water table. The Liverpool Apex Club revitalised the site as a park in 1956, and the remaining headstones were moved to the Liverpool Memorial Pioneer Cemetery. A memorial plaza from the 2020 redevelopment acknowledges this pioneer history.
